Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed by the label's debut female singer on Dreamville Records by J. Cole. The first album she released with the label on October 21 2016 with the title Pho. It was then that she started to gain fame. The album that she released as her debut studio album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox has been uploading her music since 2012, with the release of her first mixtape "Five Finger Discount" and her EP Ariography. The year 2014 saw her continue to release her music on the internet including her independently release single Bound. The song Sweat it included on Omen's Elephant Eyes album, which was released on July 21 2015. J. Cole was interested in her talent and wanted to use it in conjunction with Rihanna. It was announced on December 8 that she had signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat was her contribution for The Revenge of the Dreamers II album. On October 21 2016 she dropped her debut EP entitled Pho. Ari Lennox was a guest on J. Cole's Change and also performed in The 4 Your Eyez Only Tour as the opening act. Also, she was featured on the tracks Nothing but the Best by EarthGang and Icarus with Bas the label's co-founders. Ari Lennox dropped her first track Whipped Cream on Shea Butter Baby on July 16. The music video was then followed by a short video in September. Then, on the 9th of November 2018, she released another two singles titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). Then, in November 2013, she released her debut album No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track that she recorded alongside Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on November 16th. It then came out as a single on its own in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. In February 2019 the music video for the song was released. The track has garnered more than three million YouTube views in just a single week. As a support act she performed in concert with 6LACK in December 2018 on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
