Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed by the label's debut female singer on Dreamville Records by J. Cole. The first album she released with the label on October 21 2016 with the title Pho. It was then that she started to gain fame. The album that she released as her debut studio album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox has been uploading her music since 2012, with the release of her first mixtape "Five Finger Discount" and her EP Ariography. The year 2014 saw her continue to release her music on the internet including her independently release single Bound. The song Sweat it included on Omen's Elephant Eyes album, which was released on July 21 2015. J. Cole was interested in her talent and wanted to use it in conjunction with Rihanna.
